Searched the boards but couldn’t find a conclusive answer. Anyone here test 8 v 7 or 6 pitch prop on either a 5 or 6hp? I’m contemplating the 7 or 6. Engine is a mid 90’s Tohatsu M5B smoker, oops I mean 2-stoke. Less interested in comparisons on larger outboards as prop diameters will have diff impact on pitch change. I’m thinking the 7” pitch is way to go as I don’t want to hit hull speed on a low rpm since you know the smokers like to run at higher rpm…. Prefer more hole shot performance, at least relative for a sailboat to aid in better maneuvers in tight marina.
The 7” pitch is easily available, 6” OEM is nearly impossible to find, though Solas makes a 6” pitch but still hard to get…
Oh and if you can note rpm specifics that would be great. With my 8 I’m at about 4480 rpm at WOT. The M5B operating range is 4500-5500 rpm.

I suggest you create an ebay watch query for the 6" and 7" part numbers. Buy both in the order they come up at a good price. I've gotten a bunch of spare props that sat around in sellers cellars until it was time to declutter or move.s2sailorlis wrote:6” OEM is nearly impossible to find, though Solas makes a 6” pitch but still hard to get…

I’m testing a 7 pitch Solas prop I purchased for $50 on sale. Will conduct some tests but expect the 7 to give me a bit better hold shot to help in my marina jiu jitsu as I have to deal with stern-in, dockless slips ..
