Advice - Raytheon ST2000 for Cape Dory 25D

Post by Mike Nesja »

We are planning on installing a Raytheon ST2000 tillerpilot on our Cape Dory 25D, "Betione", which we sail out of Rockland, Maine --- low-key, coastal cruising on Penobscot Bay.

Could anyone out there provide us with recommendations on (a) exactly how and where to attach the tillerpilot, (b) where to route the power cable, (c) the need for rod extensions, brackets, and/or other accessories (such as the hand-held remote), and (d) recommended sources?

Thanks!

...or SIMRAD TP30 for Cape Dory 25D

Post by Mike Nesja »

Afterthought:
I just noticed that there are some attractive sale prices on the SIMRAD TP-30 (also favorably reviewed by Practical Sailor). Does anyone out there have any practical experience with the SIMRAD TP30?

If so, how does it compare with the AUTOHELM ST2000 with respect to ease of installation, ease of use, maintenance, parts availability, customer support?

Thanks!

We installed an ST2000+ tiller pilot on LOKI, our 25D about 3 years ago. I'm preparing her for Tuesday's launch. I'll send dimensions later today.

I took the time to interface the ap with the GPS, works grand and is highly recommended.

By the way, we are arranging for a mooring in Rockland this summer, I'll look for you.

Sincrely,

Lee

Go to the Autohelm web site- they have excellent info with precise mounting dimensions.

On Grendel, I've mounted my ancient Autohelm to a socket mounted in the center of the shallow stbd locker lid. The socket is backed by plywood epoxied to the bottom of the lid.

Bst wishes!
