Santa Came Early
This weekend, we signed a purchase agreement and made a deposit on a CD28 Power - Cruiser model. The sale is still contingent on a successful survey, but I don't anticipate any problems. The engine only has 850 hours on it since a re-build. She is currently on Lake Champlain and will be trucked to mid-Coast Maine, where she will be moored at our camp in Poorhouse Cove. This will be an addition to our fleet. We have no plans of getting rid of our sailboat. We have decided to re-name her to "Our Girls" in honor of our four daughters. Sorry, no pictures yet.

We started looking seriously about six months ago. We lost out on a few boats because we didn't act quickly enough, including one in Bristol, Maine which is on the opposite side of John's Bay from us. It all turned out for the best, because this one is the best one we looked at by far. We will quickly forget how much it cost to truck it 400 miles.

Beautiful boat, will be sorry to see the Lake Champlain fleet diminished.
As for trucking costs, with no mast to lower to get under the canal bridges its perfectly practicable to head south on the Champlain & Hudson canal and then down the Hudson to NYC before a hard turn to port and up the coast. Now that would be an epic adventure worthy of a Cape Dory.

That would be an adventure, and if we were retired, we would certainly consider it. Alas, there's there's that four letter word called WORK that gets in the way of so many good ideas! We would rather use our limited vacation time in Maine. This boat started its life at Robinhood in Maine. Sorry to diminish the Lake Champlain Fleet. but I like to think of the boat as returning home to Maine where she started.
We had a successful survey yesterday. She is a very clean boat exactly as the current owner represented. He took care of her, and made some very nice upgrades. It's a done deal.
We have decided to keep the name "LOON". Evidently, she has been named that since she was built, and loons do in fact winter over in our cove.
