My bobstay on my 1982 cd36 is showing a crack in the stainless shaft part, that leads me to believe that I should replace it rather than simply ignore it. I know I can get one made through a local rigger...my concern is how long this will take.
Does anyone know if spartan OR robinhood marine stocks this item.
Thanks,
Charlie

Re: CD 36 BOBSTAY
Charlie:
I'd recommend immediate replacement if you can see the crack on the swaged fitting. The bobstay is subjected to salt water immersion more than any other part of the standing rigging, and from my experience will need replacement long before shrouds, etc. A failure can cause catastrophic failure and potential loss of your rig, among other wonderful things.

Re: CD 36 BOBSTAY
Charlie: You knew that. I didn't respond to your question. I don't imagine Robinhood or spartan stocks them. I just had one made up by SEMCO in S. Florida; it took about 10 days round trip. I sent them the old one for reference.

Re: CD 36 BOBSTAY
Charlie,
I also have a 1982 CD36. When I bought the boat the bobstay was slightly bent. Perhaps the previous owner had wacked a dock with it. About 4 years ago the insurance survey recommended it's replacement. I decided that it was time to bite the bullet. That part is made by Navtek. It is not cheap. I believe that the threads are either rolled or cut with a J profile. Rolled threads are stronger in fatigue. If you get someone else to make it be certain that they do the threads correctly.
You are correct that if you have a crack it should be replaced immediatly. Are you certain that it is a crack and not just a scratch?
