John - those bulwarks are at least as effective as a lower line is I’d guess. I was just saying I appreciate the lower lines on my boat absent bulwarks which I doubt I’d ever install. Racing two years ago we had three incidents where the lower lines on a Dufour 36 kept crew on deck cause that’s what you hit when you tumble to leeward across a wet dog house on a boat heeling 40 degrees. Zero incidents where the uppers really came into action. If I was an ocean going guy I think I’d have netting from the dodger forward.

I would like to have a much higher toe rail or bulwarks from the mast forward. The Cape Dory toe rails, allow you just about what the name implies. They might provide a toe hold but certainly not a good foot hold when the boat is heeled and you are up on the bow.

Aft of the bow, I see little need for them, Steve.
