Recommendation for traveler system for our 1982 Cape Dory 33
We are looking for a new traveler track, car, end controls and end stop to replace the original Nicro-Fico track we have (which works very poorly). We'd be grateful for any suggestions.
If possible, we'd like to keep the traveler's 100 mm (3 15/16") hole pattern and 1/4" No. 20 bolts that hold the track onto the threads in the plate below the groove into which the current traveler track fits on the bridge deck.

Re: Recommendation for traveler system for our 1982 Cape Dor
I replaced the original traveler on Loonsong (CD32) with a Harken. One of the best upgrades I have done. The original Nico/Fico was in terrible shape and I wanted more purchase (mid-boom sheeting is quite a load). I abandoned early on any hope of keeping the same hole pattern. Instead, I sealed up the old holes with epoxy and drilled new oversized holes to match the new traveler risers, sealed them with epoxy and then drilled new mounting holes. I made backing plates out of 1/4" aluminum sheet, and made access panels in the ceiling down below to access for installation and rebedding when the time comes. I also abandoned the idea of having Harken bend the track to match the old traveler. The riser lifts the straight track high enough to clear the sea hood. I also led the control lines to the cockpit. If someone can school me on how to share pix from my dropbox account, I will do so!

We went with Harken during the big spring sale two years ago. adjustable hole spacing, but needs to be flat or less of a radius than the CD 30 cabin top.

Thanks Jim. I guess I will need to sign up for one of those services -- was hoping I could share right out of my Dropbox.

Bill,
Those instructions are rather old. You can now upload to the forum directly from your PC.
First, download the pic you want to share from your Dropbox.
Second, scroll down to the "Upload attachment" section of the Post a reply" page.
Third, click on the "Browse..." button and select the pic you downloaded then click on the "Add the file" button. Next, more the cursor to a new line and click the "Place inline" button. Lastly, you can "Preview" and/or "Submit" like any other reply!
Please remember that on "Submit" it will either return an error or a blank page, BUT the replay has been posted!

Thanks for the tutorial, I did not realize there was an upload option.
Here is a picture of my Harken traveler that I installed about 10 years ago. I cannot seem to find any closeups or project photos. I can take some if people are interested.

If you haven't already, I would suggest you contact Garhauer Marine.Tranquility wrote:We are looking for a new traveler track, car, end controls and end stop to replace the original Nicro-Fico track we have (which works very poorly). We'd be grateful for any suggestions.

They make great products at reasonable prices. Some items are even custom tooled for specific applications.

Re: Recommendation for traveler system for our 1982 Cape Dor
Attached are some pictures of my Harken traveler after 10 years. 10 year report: Superb. The purchase is adequate for the mid-boom sheeting and the cam cleats allow adjustment from within the cockpit under the dodger. I installed extra long control lines to be able to control the traveler while standing behind the wheel When is seems to be sliding rough, just flush the bearings with fresh water and it’s like new.
