I would like to make a towing bridle to tow my 8' Trinka behind a Ty. Has anyone done this? What diameter and type of line should I use? What length? Will this dinghy cause great drag?

Re: Towing a dinghy behind a Ty
I have a 25 or 30 foot length of 3/8" nylon "painter" which I just tied off wherever I could on my long gone trimaran. The dinghy is a Herreshoff Nereia pram which is fairly heavy for its 8' or so length. It was never a problem way back there and performance was the same towing the dinghy or not. I don't really remember to clearly but It seems to me that I arrived at the 30' length from some recommendation somewhere in Chapman or some similar source. Nylon would seem suitable because of the shock absorbing stretch. This isn't too scientific but since no one was answering here it is.

Re: Towing a dinghy behind a Ty
nick,
i towed a lightweight 8' dinghy one summer using braided skiers' tow-rope. worked fine and floated on the surface out of the way of the outboard prop. polypropylene rope floats while nylon tends to sink. if your dinghy is plywood or wood or heavy fiberglass you might want to go a bit heavier than skiers' rope.

Today I was getting my inflatable ready for the season and unpacked a bridle made for inflatables. The recommendation in the package was for 1 to 1 1/2 boat lengths for the towing line. You can always shorten the line when in close quarters at slow speed.
