Reccomendation's on cabin sole

Re: DANGER Will Robinson....
Michael,
I used just reqular varnish on Hanaleis' sole. So, I don't have a recommendation for varnish either way.
But, the important thing is, be REAL careful when sanding the sole. What you see is actually a vaneer of teak and holy. It is VERY thin! A little sanding, and you will break right through it to the underlying plywood(and that you can not fix!). Maybe a very light sanding with 120 grit sandpaper would be ok, but again, be real careful.
If the sole needs cleaning, a single part teak cleaner(don't use the two part stuff, it is to aggressive)should be okay, but don't leave it on too long. Once clean and dry, try the VERY light sanding before applying the varnish.
I have heard of people using Bowling Alley finish with good results, but I haven't tried that.
Hope this helps...........

Re: Reccomendation's on cabin sole
I like Epifanes wood finish matte better. It seems to have more of a sheen to it.... It looks best over two or three coats of woodfinish gloss. Wood finish gloss doesn't have to be sanded by the way....This is probably the only appilication where you can skip the sanding and still get acceptable results. The reason for using w/f gloss is that it builds faster, as well as being what epifanes recommends. W/F matte is also rated as an exterior varnish, rubbed effect isn't.Michael Heintz wrote: I've just redone all of the varnish below.......and now the cabin sole......
