Lifting Typhoon off trailer

Post by christhemacguy »

Hi all, I want to sand and paint the hull under the trailer bunkers. There is a heavy U bolt in the keel, accessible under the bilge cover. Was that designed to lift the whole boat up?

Also what is the best way to clean the topsides where the old registration numbers have left a yellow imprint? HD buffing compound isn't working.

Everything I have ever read about that ring indicates that it is not for lifting the boat, but was used to hold the ballast in place during construction.

The lifting ring was used to lower the ballast into the keel. It is not for lifting the boat.

Re: Lifting Typhoon off trailer with Ubolt in keel.

It worked!

We used a chain hoist attached to the bolt embedded in the keel and it was strong enough (after 42 years) to lift her off the ezload trailer.
She was emptied of everything but did not hang straight up and down, there was a good bit of yaw. It is not the center point fore and aft, nor side to side. Setting her back down, centered on her keel was a challenge.
