CD28 demolition

Post by csoule13 »

I'm sure many of us here are familiar with Sam Holmes and his youtube channel. His current videos are about getting his boat ready for a trans-Atlantic in May.

I found this video of particular interest, as the lip on the fiberglass liner in (some) of our boats is a potential pain in getting to wiring, etc. Thought folks might find this of value. And even though I'm likely never going to tear off the toe rail, it was fascinating to see what the deck/hull joint actually looks like.

Saw that the other night. Sam must have taken a peek at John Stone's Far Reach website for that work. I wonder if bulwarks are in the works next?!?

This also mimics the modification Hal Roth did to Whisper back in 1970 (50 years ago). He also chose to eliminate the teak toerail and added a 4” teak bulwark.

I remain curious as to the necessity of the lip on the fiberglass liner. My putter around the boat summer project is to start running new wires as the mood strikes. For the bow lights, was going to run some conduit along some unused holes to get me to the anchor locker. But some of the rest of it is a mystery at the moment.

I think he is planning on bulwarks. I decided to look through his Amazon wish list and he has U bolts on the list with a note specifically stating they're for bulwarks. He also seems to have a fetish for expensive scissors with 3-4 different pairs on the list. Lol.

I couldn't decide what I thought about taking out that lip on the liner. I figure it will look very ugly after, unless he finds someway to pretty it up. But if you ever needed to get at any of those fittings in a hurry having that lip out of the way might be a good thing.
