New CD28 Lazy Beaver

Bought a CD 28 end of last year. It has had loads of work done before we bought her. Now needs new sails, which are just ordered today. She is a 1975 boat. Originally bought by someone in Montreal before coming to Scotland. Pic attached of her sailing in VERY light airs. Good boat, but, not much headroom below and the heads are a bit ‘compact’ to say the least! Anything I need to look out for with one of this age?

Cheers Dennis. She was fully refitted between 2011 and 2013 including professional paint job on topsides and deck. Looking forward to getting the new sails. The originals are old, baggy and stretched.
Don’t I just know the feeling.....

I would watch for softness in cockpit sole. Easy fix if done early.

Roger, cockpit softness is often because of water in the balsa core....keep it dry and it will last forever. Unfortunately my previous owner dis not so I replaced my core with resin soaked marine plywood. I also put stringers under the cockpit itself.

You might want to take a good look in your chain locker to check out the mild steel “THING”. Heavy rusting is common and while mine did not require replacement, I keep an eye on it and treat the steel to prevent further damage.

What engine do you have? Mine is a replacement Volvo 2002.

Congrats on your new CD! I looked at many before stretching my budget for a lower priced 33 that needed a few upgrades. I love the 28s, nice middle-ground between big boat and small boat. There's someone who circumnavigated in a 28 somewhere on this board. She will treat you well I'm sure.

the 28 looks to be a lot of fun to sail. a guy at our marina had one with a tiller and self tending jib .. he really did well with that boat.

Sorry Pete, just saw your post. The engine was replaced in 2013 when all the upgrade work was done. It now has a 30hp yanmar indirect cooling including a calorifier for hot water to galley and heads. When we bought her, the engine meter noted 272 hours, so bearly run in!
We collected the new sails in February. Makes a huge difference to the set and performance. Quite expensive at £3800. However, that gave us a new main, jib and no. 2 genoa.
Just need some decent summer weather now to enjoy.
