My 1970 Typhoon Weekender has drains in the most forward end of the cockpit that drain straight down via hose and fiberglass "nipple" through the hull. No seacocks.
Seems like draining them aft above the water line would be a much better arrangement. I could then seal off the original through hulls.
Any thoughts ?
Cockpit drains on a Typhoon

I wouldn't do that as the cockpit won't drain properly and when you have a few people aboard water will likely come into the cockpit. I would add seacocks to the original and replace the hoses. Search this site for the West marine part numbers. I did this job on our former boat, a '75 Typhoon and it worked very well. Drains well and If you take a big crew for a sail you can close off the ball valves to keep the water from backing up onto the cockpit sole.

I second Paul's recomendation.
I did the same replacement of hoses on my 1975 Ty Weekender using the tips found in this website. My valves were bronze and great working order so left them alone. Just replaced the aging hose. Now sailing a Ty Daysailer which I love!

Agree with adding valves, and dont forget to cross the hoses!
