Winter Projects

Post by Paul D. »

What's your planned winter boat projects? Up in the northern border areas we have long winters and they are to be dealt with seriously by sailors. Here are a few I'm planning.
- Re stitch dodger zips
- Re stitch weather cloth that ripped out in a storm this past season
- Re stitch awning - same storm (yes I left it up, partly to be able to hang out and watch and partly to see if it would survive)
- Re stitch batten pocket on old mainsail
- Research engine room sound insulation methods
- Research fridge insulating methods
- Sew Sailrite cruising spinnaker kit?
- Add 4' to bottom of spinnaker sock
- Figure out better mounting arm for iPad plotter
- Choose the boat's bottle of scotch for next season

RAM mounts have a fantastic selection of well made mounts.

We sew also but thought there was not enough savings with the sail rite spinnaker kit.

Replace a poorly ventilated hanging locker that I seldom use anyway, with shelves. Everything I have ever put in that hanging locker gets covered in mildew.

Winter Projects.....let me count the ways.

New Mainsail - ordered
Replace insect screen for cockpit hatch cover with stronger mesh material. Any Suggestions?
Fix or replace Lifesling Man Overboard Rescue System bag/cover
Wash all running rigging lines
Varnish boat hook
Get head sails cleaned
Inspect gennaker and sock for wear.
Continue research on new engine.

Should keep me busy for a bit this winter that, unfortunately, has already started up here in the Northern Midwest.
So it goes....
Sail on
