Good luck Jim. This is the power of a board like the CD discussion Board, getting a bunch of comments and info in order to make more informed decisions. One of the reasons I got a CD actually. Understanding of course we will all do things differently.

In considering the staysail you mention, I've been intrigued by the new European boats with the German system of one sheet rigged to a track forward of the mast then up to the spreaders, down to a black and back to the cockpit. Seems simple and eliminates a staysail boom. Anyway, again good luck.
