Bahamas books - planning and/or travelogue

My old man is getting close to retirement, with a daydream of doing a New England to Bahamas trip next year, maybe the year after that. Was hoping to get him a book or two to help make what's now a hoped for experience feel a little more concrete.

And to make this a little more complicated, it doesn't have to be something as a mile-by-mile break down like the Bob Sherer books. Books that will spark the imagination, travelogues, etc. also welcome.

When we chartered down there we found "The Cruising Guide to Abaco Bahamas" by Steve Dodge to be invaluable and fun. Not sure if they've updated since the hurricane. I can't wait to go back.

Twp perennial favorites are authors Steve Pavlidis or Monty Lewis. I know these folks personally and even after several decades their books are still favorites with many "Bahama Hounds." Monte started the Explorer Guides series, and Steve has several books on most of the Bahama Island groups. Two different and complementary approaches.

The Explorer chart books are good for planning. He could start with the Near Bahamas version. I have also found the Skipper Bob guides to be useful. There are also some good video series on YouTube. Check out “Sailboat Story”
