Hope you are well and safe these days. Not sure if you're still with the CD.org board or not. I hope so and that you've gotten another CD.
I am a new CD owner and just recently bought a '72 Typhoon weekender. I'm curious about the "internal gas tank" you mention in your ad. Could you elaborate? Did you install it on the port side under the cockpit seat somewhere and run a fuel line aft to the engine?

Very true MGPHI52.
After reading some other posts about typhoon owners and gas tank set ups, I realized that Bob was referring to the internal tank on the engine. Thanks and appreciate the response. I think I will either look for an engine with an internal tank or stick with the external tank.
The after deck is very spongy and am looking to replace the core this winter and thought I might take advantage of having to remove the fiberglass, installing some sort of fuel tank locker, but am thinking I just reinforce the engine mount underneath and replace the core with Coosa or some other non-balsa wood core.

I highly recommend using an outboard with its own tank on the Typhoon. The outboard that came with our Typhoon had an external tank, and the fuel hose kept getting crimped when I turned the outboard around for reverse (this was the kind of outboard with forward and neutral, but no reverse gear) causing the outboard to shut off right when you needed it. Also, there is nowhere to store an external gas tank on a Typhoon that doesn't vent into the bilge, which is very dangerous. An outboard with its own fuel tank is the way to go on a Typhoon.

I have two engines- 1989 Johnson 2 stroke 4 hp that has the forward/neutral that I rotate 180 for reverse, as you mentioned and a 2002 Mercury 4 stroke 5 hp that is a bit heavier but has F, N and Reverse....both with external tanks. I'll have to sell both engines and search for an internal gas tank 4 hp with long shaft.
I do have a 30lb thrust Minkota electric motor but I'm afraid it won't have enough power to get me in and out of the slip at the marina without dinging other boats.
