Not mine, but the one just before mine. Hull No. 5 !!

Can anyone confirm or deny that at one point the Typhoon was built with a bowsprit?
This is Hull No. 5 landlocked in NH.
I've got Hull No. 6. A lot of similar details, but that bowsprit arrangement!

Without a photo of the bow stem, I could only guess someone thought they
knew more about naval architecture than Carl Alberg and added it???

It's also very possible the boat is "quite similar" to a Typhoon, but not really a Typhoon?

Interesting! I'm not a Cape Dory historian, but that nameplate does appear legit. I'm not sure about the bowsprit. In the photo, it looks like the forestay still attaches to the bow in the normal location (compared to a Typhoon without a bowsprit) so it appears to be either decorative or for some anchor-related purpose. Possibly added after manufacture by a later owner, although that would have taken some heavy modification of the bow casting, assuming it was the same as later models.

Yes it is a very early Typhoon but that hot mess on the bow is definitely not original, Steve

What is that circular thing on the front of the bow sprit? I'm struggling to understand what it is used for but appears to be the purpose of the bow sprit being added.

Looks like a water ski tow hook. What it's doing there, I have no idea!
