Stuffing box gap

Post by Robert »

Does anybody know what the measurement between the propeller shaft and stuffing box is (the space where the packing goes) on the CD25D? After reviewing the manual, which does not have the measurement, I tried to measure it myself but it is so tight down there and the fittings seem to taper, I do not believe I got an accurate measurement. I think that it is 1/8". I want to try the GFO Fiber dripless packing, by Gore, but I need the measurement to order the proper size.

Thanks for any advice.

Robert,

I believe that all Cape Dory stuffing boxes use 1/4 inch flax. As we discussed earlier this weekend, getting in three rounds is a chore next to impossible in some cases.

Ken is correct. The packing size is 1/4". I am in the midst of completing this task on my 25D. And it is a chore.....I have the new flax in, but have yet to get the collar back in place (I havent worked on it in a couple of days due to easter & family emergency).

The 1/4" packing is a tight fit, but thats what came out, so it has to go back in.
