Re: CD 27 YSB8 shut off ???
YSB 8 that I have on my 1978 Intrepid 28 is a similar situation. Pull back on throttle and fuel is cut off. on the engine itself is a lever used to release compression for manual starting. Other than that the engine is pretty basic and pretty reliable.Steve I. wrote: My 1977 CD appears not to have any shut off except to pull the throttle all the way untill it stalls, previous owner says it's all he's ever known.Any small diesel I've seen has always had a pull cable of some sort. any advice would be great. Steve,
My YSB 12 has the same system. Pull the throttle back all the way and it shuts down. My old 12HP Lister worked the same way.
The compression release lever normally does not have a cable attached. It is used for manual starting, something Cape Dory did not include with the engines they installed. You can use it to help start your engine if the battery is weak. Depress the lever while cranking to get the engine spinning, then release while continuing to crank to get the engine to fire.
