Typhoon Weekender Cabin Paint

Post by ty3 »

I'm considering painting the interior of the cabin on my Ty.

Curious for advice from those who have tackled this job. Appreciate any advice re:prepping, cleaning and paint choices selected.

Thanks in advance.

Totally different boat, but I painted my bulkheads with house trim paint. Since it's interior work, you don't need to use a marine enamel. Paint is very forgiving. Give it a good cleaning and a light sanding, and paint. Paint is a one-way street, though. It's hard to undo it once it's done, so make sure you're committed to it before you start.

A coat of varnish before painting would help to make this move somewhat reversible.

Rustoleum makes a line of marine paints that are significantly lower priced. I used them on the wood and fiberglass interior of my Sea Sprite. Can't speak to the longevity as I sold the boat shortly after. It looked nice and went on well. Some Home Depots stock them or available via Amazon.
