Gelcoat damage repair....can it wait?

Don't forget to snap some photos while you work on that boat project, then share them here.

Gelcoat damage repair....can it wait?

Post by Green Horn »

Hi guys,
So I am heading south down the icw in my CD28 and in my travels I have picked up (or maybe I already had) gelcoat damage (see attached pics). I am in NC at the moment and wanted to get your opinion on the following question: Can the repair of what is in the pics wait until I get to Florida or do I need to do something now?
Thanks for any advice you have!

You can wait. Those all look non-structural; just surface blemishes. - Jean

Jean is correct, as usual.....Orion had a couple battle scars when I bought her in 06....they weren’t repaired for about 10 years.

I am real curious about that foot against the hull and below the rubrail. If the boat is on the hard you must be really tall, if it is in the water you must be really wet.

Hi Tim - I'm laying down on a floating dock.

I feel better now, thanks. I would let that repair go until you have some down time whenever you next pull your boat - if anyone ever has down time then.

Jean, Jim, Tim - thanks!! I'd prefer to wait and fix it when I pull the boat and paint the topside later in the summer.
