Wedges were key. Also, don’t forget to take out the one screw that binds toe rail to the bowsprit (pics below). /face-smack
I wasted time wondering why the bowsprit wouldn’t pop off when the wedges were about halfway up the bowsprit

Excellent work....and the fun isn’t over. It’s great that you took the time to photograph and post the process so others might benefit from your labor. I’m anxiously awaiting further installments.

hi Kickin, You are working pretty hard. You might want to plan ahead if you need to move the hole for the anchor chain. Here is a photo of mine. I didn't bother patching and boring a new hole. You can see The center of the new hole is about 2" over because of my windlass. I have since cut all those long bolts and secured the wires better and painted the locker

My wife and I have been talking about putting a manual windless on it, but the issue for us is that we intended this boat to be transitory, intended to learn both how to sail and how to maintain a sailboat. I’m a life long power boater, grew up boating the great lakes and inland waters (salt water environment is a new dimension). This boat is my university to sailing, mechanics, and maintenance.
We do intend to upgrade to a larger vessel in 3-5yrs, so I’m not looking to refit. Every dollar I put into this boat is less I put into my next boat. I’m losing money overall on these projects but the boat will have significantly less risk, and I’ll have significantly more understanding of how things work so when I disconnect to go cruising, I’ll be able to handle things myself. That being said, I love this boat!!
Primarily I just want her to be a solid cruising boat for the bay for now, and a solid boat for the next owner to enjoy turn key ready. Figured I’d post pics of my learning process and in the hopes it inspires/helps others.

Hi Kickin, Thanks for the response. I just wanted to comment for everyone. I was anxious to get my boat functional and down here in So. CA. I didn't think that hole for the anchor chain was so bad and I can fix it some other time. When the toerail get replaced I think that's a good time to reglass the deck. Some times it's discouraging (Intimidating might be a better word) to see how awesome some of the guys are fixen their boats. I unfortunately can't afford that luxury. I plan to be dead or disabled in a few years and I just want a sturdy boat that I can get out to the wild blue. I also worked on motor boats ,commercial fishing in Alaska for 17 yrs. I run my 34' seiner year round with a compass and sounder. I'm OK with weather and Navigating. but sailing is new to me. I'm getting the hang of it. It's amazing Last week When I was anchored out in a gale . I was a little worried but when I got out in the ocean the boat just took over and sail like she was in her own element. It was a blast. We sure get a lot of support form the members on this board. Thanks everyone.. Happy New year!!!

Got started on replacement bowsprit today. I bought a big piece of 8/4 teak last weekend and took advantage of the warm weather to work halfway outside my garage on the 11' piece of wood. It looks like the original sprit is a wide central plank and four pieces on either side.
What's weird is the central plank appear to be tapered. I scratched my head for a few hours today trying to figure this out, following glue lines and such. It seems to be 4 3/8" wide at the chain opening then narrows to about 3 3/8" at the aft end of the forestay fitting. At the widest the whole sprit is about 10 1/8" but it narrows to 9 1/2" by the forward part of the forestay fitting (which is the last part I have since the rest got knocked off).
Has anyone else noticed this?

I noticed some are tapered like "Gonesail's" and some are rectangular like Hilbert's and mine and Kicken's. I don't know why I laminated mine. I think I just copied someone else. I wondered about it when I saw all the sawdust I threw away. I think the solid planks are ash . I gonesails tapered one is also laminated teaki

Progress! Coat 0 of varnish. Yeah, the kitchen is best place to varnish in January...
