CD25D mast step
Selling my CD25D (1982) and I was asked an interesting question by a prospective buyer. My mast is deck stepped and hinged for easy lowering and trailering. My question is whether this was the original design or was the mast originally keel stepped? The guy seemed to think that all 25Ds were originally fitted with keel stepped masts, is he right?

Re: CD25D mast step
I'm pretty sure it was *not* keel stepped... but I have been wrong before...

Martin:
As this board will painfully recall, I inspected a lot of Cape Dory 25Ds before settling on S/V Bali Ha'i.
I am 99% confident that no CD25D left the factory with a keel stepped mast. The 1% may be for the lone buyer/sailor who wanted a keel stepped mast installed during construction. Doubtful (that is why I say 1%)
I do not believe CD 25D masts were "hinged" at the mast plate at the factory. I assume some (perhaps several) caretakers over the years have installed a hinged mast plate for ease of removing and securing the mast or just a different updated mast plate with attachments holes, etc.

Re: CD25D mast step
Thankyou Roberto, well received. The hinged base plate was installed 2014 so I guess it was a replacement for the original.
Thank you again.

Re: CD25D mast step
Roberto et al are correct. The 25D's mast is stepped to the coach roof, with a post to transfer the weight to the keel. A hinged mast was not original equipment, IMHO.
