Emergency tiller CD 270

Post by Daadolf »

After years of looking this coming Monday I will finally own CD 270 #11 with wheel steering however there is no emergency tiller on board but one is shown in owners manual. Any info will be much appreciated. I’m very happy to become a member of the CD family and will be joining this organization.

Welcome! When I commissioned my CD 27 about this time last year, it too lacked an emergency tiller. I removed the plate over the tiller post, took measurements (I believe mine is a 7/8 inch square post), did a mock up with some pieces of wood to get the right angles (I too have a wheel and needed to make sure the emergency tiller handle could be used without interference) and then went to a local welding shop where I had one fabricated for $50. It's a nice piece of mind and not as much trouble to do as you might think.
