Hey...
More questions about seacock grease!
I just got off the phone with NAPA, around here they don't carry Morey's grease, in fact they've never even heard of it (same w/ a couple other car part stores).
So are there other comparable greases out there?
And while we're on the subject, what do you all recommend for winches?
In fact, seeing how spring is just about here, does anybody have any products (grease or otherwise) they highly recommend for pre-launch chores?

Re: grease
i have bought a red grease that sounds awful similar to morey's at napa, it is thick and stringy. what i asked for when i got this was their best waterproof water pump/wheel bearing grease. it was in a napa container with a napa label. i have no idea where it is so please don't ask for details beyond this!

Re: grease
Raleigh's newest and largest NAPA store, which is the largest I have ever seen anywhere, knew exactly what I wanted when I called for Morey's Red EP #3209 the other day and had a tube on the shelf when I arrived. Check out NAPA on line and see if you can't locate a nearby store that carries it. The on-line store listings are more recent than the latest on-line yellow pages; just type in your zip at the bottom of the page. I haven't done my grease experiment yet, but I am almost ready. Unfortunately, I have to spend the weekend working on the boat in 70 degree weather, so I won't get to play with Morey's Red this weekend.

Re: grease
I'm hauled out right now and taked with the yard boss about secock grease. FWIW he said he does not like wheel bearing grease because some of it is aluminum based and he'd be concerned about the possibility of electrolysis with it, although he used to use it on seacocks. He said he's talked to grease manufacturers and has come to the conclusion that the best grease to use is synthetic although he also thought that pure lanolin was OK because it's organic in composition. Since he used to use it and never had any problems I don't think it's an urgent issue, but since we're looking for the ideal grease it's another factor to consider. JFYI.huw wrote: Hey...
