Plastic builder's late
Inspecting my (new to me) CD 27 and saw that the builders plate is (gasp) plastic! Did some come with the bronze builders plate and some plastic? I guess one of the first "improvements" will be to get the bronze from Bristol Bronze. She'll probably point higher and sail above hull speed.

Walter
I had the same situation with my CD 28. There are a couple of folks that will do up a plate that can be searched via this forum, I recall one National meeting where a door price was having a plate made up for your boat....I won and am going to use that plate as a belt buckle. You can do what I did for my first CD and use the plastic plate as a template that most any foundry will use to make a Bronze replica.
Consider having a spare made for either a buckle or for placing behind the helm.

Re: Plastic builder's late
remove it and send it to a bronze caster. they can just make a sand mold of it and presto! bronze.
Re: Plastic builder's late
Try contacting Bristol Bronze first. They made the one I have on KAYLA, but that was back in 2002... Their current 'catalog' doesn't list Cape Dory plates, but I'll bet they still can make them.

Hi Walter, It was good meeting you on Saturday at the Cabin Fever Lunch.
Bristol Bronze always has a booth (table, really) at the Maine Boatbuilders Show and they usually have a pretty good inventory of Cape Dory builders plates on-hand. The Maine Boatbuilders Show is March 22-24, 2019.

And I still have never seen a tiller boat carry an emergency wheel...Neil Gordon wrote:>>Consider having a spare made for either a buckle or for placing behind the helm.<<
