Sailing involves the courage to cherish adventure and the wisdom to fear danger. Knowing where one ends, and the other begins, makes all the difference.

We took 3 of our grandchildren on a treasure hunt aboard the S/V Pinafore. They "found a bottle on the beach at Port Townsend WA that contained a treasure map and directions to the treasure.

We sailed to Marrowstone Island where they found the hidden treasure chest.

They found the treasure and hauled it back to the Pinafore.

Among all the treasures, the youngest found the eye patch to be most valuable.

The funniest thing was that the kids thought it was absolutely real.
The 9 year old said, "I've seen the discovery channel, and if there's somebody else looking for the treasure, we could get in a fight. "
The 7year old said, "If this is pirate treasure we could end up dead. "
Nana said, "It will be adventure. "
He responded, "But Nana, dead?!."
The 5 year old shouted, "Pirates! Treasure! Let's go! "

Early morning in Fury Cove, Rivers Inlet, BC. Those beaches are 100% clam shell fragments resulting from eons of native harvesting.

I can't beat BC, nor youthful pirate enthusiasm, so here is a sound for sore ears in a thick fog.

It is the buoy circled here, just of the south tip of Bailey Island, taking our boat over to Finest Kind Boatyard for her winter nap.

Wish I knew how to rotate the pic. It was correctly oriented when I grabbed it.

Another beautiful photograph. I was unaware of the existence of the Kalmar Nyckel, you learn something new every day. Both the original and this faithful reproduction have an interesting history.
