Folding prop for a Cape Dory 36
Has anyone replaced their prop with a folding prop? Which one fit your CD 36. We tried to look into flexoprop and this is the response we got-

I would check out the (German engineering at its best) " Variprop". I have a 4 blade on my CD30. Outstanding performance!

Are you confusing folding props with feathering props? I don’t think you can fit a folding prop in your aperture. Also, there is no advantage of a folding over a feathering in an aperture.
I think the gold standard for feathering props for a CD 36 is MaxProp. Contact John Ring. I think that’s what he uses in his 36.
If and when I ever install an engine in the Far Reach (CD 36, Hull 61) I will probably go with a two blade folding but the shaft will not be in an aperture...since I don’t have one.

I did understand the difference between folding and feathering- but with the reviews I read (https://www.yachtingmonthly.com/gear/fo ... test-29807) the Flexofold 3B prop seemed to come out better in most of the variables tested.
It became clear with measurements that a feathering prop was the only thing we could get into the opening- but was having trouble getting info from makers.
Comparing the Max Prop we had seen it to perform better than most of the other feathering props in the review- so it helps to have it recommended here!
Added- we just ordered the Max Prop. Customer service was great- Fred Hutchinson knew the Cape Dory specs off the top of his head!
