Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find a replacement nylon bushing that is fitted at the top the 30K rudder post, and/or how the rudder can be removed?

Re: CD30K Rudder Post Bushing
Hi Mark,
I found Edson International (Edson Marine Division)
website - http://www.edsonmarine.com/,
Address - 146 Duchaine Blvd. New Bedford, MA 02745,
Edson customer service - 508-995-9711, Fax 508-995-5021,
e-mail - info@edsonintl.com
Please post whatever you find. On reflecting on your question I got to thinking that a new / better bushing may be a good idea for Heather Ann.
I noticed an interesting rudder / steering problem summer 1999 on returning home from Onset 99 Rendezvous. South of Newport, RI the Autohelm was correcting, but the helm was not moving. (With my new Autohelm 3000 and the 'nice Raytheon service', this was not earth shattering - but that's another story.) Anyway it appeared the helm had frozen in place. After two hours at heave-to and selective disassembly of helm components, we traced it down to salt water (very, very little) getting into the turning block at the aft end of the wheel shaft. A few sprays of 'Wonder Mist' (a WD-40 type lubricant/dispersant/oxidation preventer) into the block shaft interface freed things up. A few months later Edson called me as a follow up to a catalog request. I gave them this problem and suggested an after market modification using a grease fitting. Nothing out of them yet. If they appear responsive to you I'll try them again. I was waiting on a resolution to this before adding the steering to my list of areas to rebuild / improve / revamp, etc.

Re: CD30K Rudder Post Bushing
I am helping a friend on his boat. I ran into this info while thinking about his rudder post bushing.
O'Day 27 rudder post: Submitted by Barney Mathie of Detroit, MI on 01/31 at 05:49PM regarding Oday 27
Gougen Bros. West system epoxy has a solution which I used on my O'Day 27. You inject resin loaded with graphite around the rudder post which forms a new bearing. You need to drop the rudder out of the boat so you can wax the post which keeps the epoxy from sticking to the post when you inject the resin. While th post is out, drill 1/4" holes in the rudder post at the bottom and at the top where the old bushings are. Put the rudder back in place, square it in place with wedges, inject the graphite epoxy mix top and bottom. Let it cure, tape over the holes to keep resin from dripping out, then work the rudder back and forth to break it loose.
Drop the rudder out so you can clean the wax off the post, reinstall and you will have a smooth working rudder. This is all explained in the booklet you can buy at most marine /boating stores that sell the West System.
We haven't done this yet, but it sounds right. At least worth reading about it in the West System booklet next time I'm at the store . . .

Removal of your rudder is a bit of a project but not difficult.Search the archives and you will find good info describing the process.I have done this before so don't hesitate to e-mail me if you run into a question.
