Rear engine zincs

Post by Dick Turner »

Would like some info on rear engine zincs. I'm new to auxillary power and a statement I just read re. zincs has raised a concern. Where might they be located on a Universal 3 cyl., 24hp in a CD 31? Where might I purchase replacements if necessary. Any related info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Dick,

The only engine zinc I know of is the one in the heat exchanger. It is a pencil zinc, on the port side bottom of the exchanger. If I remember right, it takes a 7/16" wrench to remove it. On the Universal 18, it can be reached by reaching in over the front of the engine, with a good flood light and a little contorsions! If you are fresh water cooled, that should be the only one ya need to worry about. Oh, you can buy the zinc from W.M., don't pay the Universal price.

as capt stump said, the only engine zinc is a pencil one on the port side in the heat exchanger - after changing it a few times you will be able to do it with your eyes closed - i change it at least in the beginning and end of each season, you can tell it's had enough by looking at it

on anothe subject, the fuel filter on the starboard side of that engine is a devil to get it - after a few years of torture, i moved mine above the engine to a bracket attached to the partition
