I tried to rebed my forward hatch on my 36 and found two of the screws would not grab because of some rot do to water leakage. Short of pulling all of the decorative trim to get to the wood, does anyone have a solution. The wood is dry but soft.

Hopefully this will help you.First I would clean the area quite well, then I would take some de-natured alcohol and squirt it into the holes and let it dry it should not take long for it to dry.If you have access to an air hose blow it out well also. The alcohol will help dry out the water.then you have two chooses one fill the holes with west system let dry then redrill or retap holes.Second while the west system is still wet put screws back in and let dry.I prefer the first because that way if you need to remove screws again you can do so with no hassle. This I learned from one of the glass guys I work with in the boat yard I work at.
Good Luck
