Tohatsu outboard maintenance

Post by Big E »

So...anyone with a CD25 has probably run into this...Spent the better part of today trying to clean outsalt/ gunk/ sea life that has accumulated
around the water intake & the outlet. Engine sits in the well all season because it's too much of a pain in the butt to take it out each time. So here's the question. Is there any way easier way to clean these areas other than jabbing them with paper clips?

Is there anyway to cover the lower unit with a plastic bag? Might minimize growth?

Never understood why they didn't make a cavity in the lower transom to allow the outboard to be tikted out of the water. A friends Coronado 25 has that design and it works quite well.

Very similar to the Coronado 25. I got a quote to do something similar for the CD 22 (they had just done it for a SeaSprite 23, another Alberg design...it was $3-5K for the local yard to do this kind of a modification. (The Ty Senior had a similar issue.)

I think a plastic bag is a cheaper way to go...;)
