We will be replacing halyards on our 1977 CD30. Presently they are rope/wire type used in that period.Besides having to install rope sheaves is there any reason not to switch to rope halyards and be done with it ?Something like 7/16" sta-set I would think should be more than strong enough.Thanks.

i prefer all rope halyards - my cd31 originally had a wire topping lift which i replaced so that it also serves as a spare halyard - i have 1/2 in sta-set but i think 7/16 would be safe

Re: Rope/wire halyards
On our 30 I use 7/16" New England Sta-Set X. The original rigging calls for a 7/16" main halyard. Sta-Set X is less stretch than standard Sta-Set and is somewhat stiffer in handling. It would perform more like your wire/rope halyard.Ron Musk wrote: We will be replacing halyards on our 1977 CD30. Re: Rope/wire halyards
I replaced all the rope/wire type halyards on my CD 27 2 seasons ago with all rope Sta-Set 3/8-inch line. They have held up great. But if you don't have a long thin fid, you may also want to buy the New England Rope Unifed rope splicing kit to splice thimble eyes onto the business end. This kit was about another $25.00.
