CD cabin cushion measurement question

Post by Dave Richardson »

We are goint to replace the original cabin cushions and are considering a thicker seat cushion. Need to know the clearance between the original seat cushion and the lower edge of the seat back wooden support board. I think it is two or three inches, but am not sure and the boat is not available now for measurement. Can anyone help me with this?

This is the project that my wife just finished this past weekend. We used 4 in. high density open cell foam, and they fit under the backrest perfectly.
We originally considered using 5 in. of foam in combination with two different densities, but after trying it out at the store (now that had to look kinda odd...), we found that 4 in. of foam was the perfect resiliency, and it removed the probelm you are thinking about too. What I had decided to do to accomodate the backrest bottom edge, was to create a lip on the foam that slides under the backrest. The lip would make that part of the cushion 4 in. thick. Now a lip got my wife up in arms, as it really complicates the design and sewing of the cover itself..how do you cover the lip which is smaller than the rest of the cushion? ugh.
Otherwise, if the thickness is left alone, you can just disassemble the existing cushions, noting any changes in size or shape you may now need. Rip the stitches out, and then lay it out on the new fabric. Cut it out and sew it up, and you are done.

Good Luck..nice project!
