What's the sequence for reducing sail on the Typhoon? Put a reef in the main or roll up some of the jib? Is there a rule of thumb or does it depend on your point of sail?
Thanks,
Robert

Re: Typhoon Reefing
The sequence is the same for all sloops. When going up wind it is best to reduce both the main & jib so the boat stays balanced. The main is harder to reef so do it at the dock if possible. If you're just on the edge of too much sail a reefed main may be enough, but if there is too much jib you will have lee helm. Best thing to do is experiment & see how she feels. Our goal is a slight amount of weather helm. John CD31 #18Robert wrote: What's the sequence for reducing sail on the Typhoon? Put a reef in the main or roll up some of the jib? Re: Typhoon Reefing
for the DAERAY it is take down the 155 genoa and pull up the working jib (100). then it is one reef in the main and the working jib. after that it is drop the jib and sail on under main alone because i only have one set of reef points. be careful to stay out of "irons".
beyond that, it is call it a day and enjoy some time eyeballing in the marina.

Re: Typhoon Reefing
Robert,
I would definately put a reef in the main first as the boat sails just lovely with a 150% genoa and reefed main. As the wind builds I take down the genny and put up the working jib. 100% (105% according to sailrite of which I have a new kit sitting down below waiting to be built.) Then a second reef in the main. By then it is blowing pretty hard so the main comes down and I am left with the jib which can still get me back to the mooring.
Hope this helps.

Re: Typhoon Reefing
does the HORNET point well with the genoa and reefed main? i only tried it once or twice and didn't make out so good upwind.
