Replacing old Merriman steering pedestal on CD31

Post by jen1722terry »

In the next year or so, we plan to replacing our original MYS pedestal with a used/reconditioned Edson pedestal. We know nothing of pedestals, if anyone has done this on a CD 31, we'd appreciate your sharing your experiences.

I was scanning through the forums and noticed this post. I have just removed the Edson pedestal from my CD30 and do not plan to put it back on the boat as I am converting to a tiller. If you would be interested, I'd be willing to sell it to another Cape Dory owner for a discounted price although I don't know how much the shipping would be since I am located in North Carolina at the moment but I'd be willing to work something out.

We had a 31 Cape Dory and did replace the Merriman Pedestal with an Edson Pedestal. The hole pattern was not a problem and it was a matter of connecting the transmission & Throttle linkage. The below deck quadrant remained in place.

This replacement was done in 1989 on Hull # 29.

Thanks, Tom, for the offer.

We won't be returning to the States (and the boat) until spring, and shipping the pedestal over here to Canada can be a real pain.

If it's still available then, we would definitely be interested.

We also plan to visit a used parts place someone told us about that had lots of used pedestals.

Thanks again,
