1980 Cape Dory 27 Map Table

Post by sailor4you »

Have a 1980 CD 27, Hull ID CPDJ0159M80B, that has a map table where the port quarter berth usually is located. I have looked at hundreds of Cape Dory 27 photos on-line, but have yet to see one with this interior configuration. Even the sale brochures on this site do not have this as an option. Apparently this was an option because I have one! Is the B at the end of my Hull ID number the designation for this interior configuration?

I surmise a previous owner was very fond of chess or some other board game. It certainly appears to be a non-factory original modification. I do think it was a labor of love. Just my two cents.

The 'B' at the end of your HIN designates a September production.

There were B model Cape Dory 30s that have the head in the V berth area and a nav station with a chart table. I am not too familiar with the CD 27 lay out but it seems like Cape Dory did a lot of modificatons and customization over the years, Steve.

Since I have a CD 27', I'm curious. Is that on the port side, from the photo it appears to be. I really like it! But, what is forward of it? would love to see more photos showing the cabin layout! Nonetheless, it is very nice!!!!!!

In looking at it carefully, it would appear to be an after market modification, just guessing though. Whoever did it, whether factory or after, it is very nicely done.

One other thing, I just noticed is that it appears you have a grate over the bilge access. is that correct? Mine has a solid piece there and from what I've seen in other CD 27s that is standard.

I'm guessing some previous owner was an excellent craftsman and made some modifications to suit his own tastes.
