CD 28 Intrepid Hull Number 1-Proud Girl almost Derelict

Post by Ed »

In what seems an endless search for the perfect boat,I found myself in Massachusetts today viewing Hull nr 1 of the CD 28 Intrepid series. She was so forlorn rusting on her keel at the broker's-not having sailed in 3 seasons. Bilges were filled to brimming with icy oily water. The forward hatch had been screwed permanently shut with sheet metal screws and much of the formerly fine teak painted. The engine was a mass of rust and appeared seized-her chain plates were a mess and not a bit of bright work that did not need to be reworked-wiring cracked and brittle-headliner molded through and her main deck a mass of cracks. Such a sad ending for the first hull of one of the finest lines ever designed. I left wishing that there was a qualification board for boat ownership-this owner was not worthy.

I'm curious to know how much the broker was asking for the boat.
