Typhoon mast and winches cleaning

Hello hello!
It's me again! So I started working on my Ty! )
Yesterday I removed the old radio, the head and the puplit...and now I'd like to clean mast and service the winches!
Any suggestions?
For the mast, I was told to use acetone, does it make sense?? For the GIBB ENGLAND winches, no idea yet!
I saw the other posts but..is there a good youtube video?!?!?

Now the fun begins! For the mast, I think a simple laundry soap and water would be a first step, followed by some soft scrub (a fiberglass
tub cleaner) for stains. For your winches, you could go to http://www.pbase.com/mainecruising/boat_projects. There is a good tutorial
on servicing "England" winches there. You could buy some new springs for the pawls at West Marine. Good luck - Jean

I think that the accepted solvent is kerosene (aka paraffin). At least on my Ty winches there are some plastic parts that may be harmed by Acetone. Acetone is also pretty flammable.

Use mineral spirits, cheap and effective. The British call it white spirit which Gibb (a British firm) reccommended to clean their winches when servicing.

definitely would not use acetone on the mast. I would just use soap and water. finish up with semichrome polish. it shines up real nice and protects against weather.
