Does anyone know the specs for the original prop for a CD 27? Also, has anyone used a folding prop and found it worthwhile?

The propellor is less a function of the boat (CD27, CD28, CD30 etc.) than the engine and transmission package you intend to install. The only limitation defined by the boat model is the aperture diameter which is easily measured or found in your drawing package. You can order the same engine with different transmission gear ratios, or different engines and power ratings all on the same model boat.
In conclusion, work with your favourite propellor manufacturer after your engine and transmission package is defined.
Regarding folders, the question comes down to....
- what is the cost difference (they are very expensive!)
- are you willing to pay the increased maintenance price to keep it functional?
- how much is the improved light air performance worth? (folders don't help when there is good wind because you have ample power to overcome the drag)
- How long do you hope it to last (folders are not as robust as the fixed)
One of my friends recently replaced his (failed) 2-blade folder on his Westsail 39 with a fixed 3 blade prop and you can't notice any difference except that it now backs better than it did with the folder. But the winds here are pretty good so likely it is not a fair comparison. In his case, the new fixed prop was cheaper than a rebuild on the folder.
