Hi Everyone,
Wondering if anyone's had the experience of shipping a CD overseas? We'll be moving from Puerto Rico to the Wash DC area in March and our CD33 is coming along. Obviously she has to be demasted and various tanks emptied. But what are some of the "little things" I should be aware of? Any tips, suggestions, recommendations, advice, etc...will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all.

Such a beautiful sail to miss. It would be less stressful for the boat to sail.Frank Vernet wrote: Hi Everyone,

I don't know much about "delivery captains" but I know there are some on this board who do it. Is your boat fitted out for a blue water sail like that? Its another thing to consider if you don't want the boat "loaded" on a ship and you don't want to undertake the ocean sailing yourself.John Doyle wrote:Such a beautiful sail to miss. Re: Shipping CD33 Overseas
Frank,
I just shipped a CD 26D from Fernandina Beach, FL to Naples, IT. The trip went very smoothly and we only had one minor blemish on the mast. I am pretty sure that this occured during inland transport. Unfortunately I was not able to be present when the boat was picked up from the marina, but I bet that if I had been there I could have seen it coming. I think it was probably where the mast was resting on the trailer and was not properly padded. We moved everything inside the boat and I did the packing myself. Not a thing was damaged inside. We padded everything so that it wouldn't be able to move around and used mostly left over packing materials from our house movers. I think only common sense is required when packing the inside. Nothing else special was done in preparation. I used a guy by the name of Patrick Griffin (pgriffin@boatshipping.com) to set up the move. I think he gave us a good price and he was very helpful. If you have any other questions, please feel free to email.
Good Luck

CD-33 offshore delivery
Frank,
If the boat is fitted out and in condition for such a trip, I'd be interested in delivering her offshore for you in early May. I have experienced crew and am familiar with the route. Certainly cheaper than shipboard/shore delivery and better for the boat. I'm on vacation in Florida until April 1 when I'll be back in Oriental. Reach me at the email address here if you'd like to discuss this further.
