Batten Dimensions for CD 27

I'm hoping someone can help me. I found that I am missing 2 battens. I measured the length of the batten pockets but didn't think to measure the width of the battens.

Does anyone know what they would be on a CD 27'? They looked like they. Hold be 3/4".

It would be very hard to make a recommendation on batten size. I believe it would depend on who made the sail as to what size battens they would have used. I just measured the battens for one of Raven's sails and it is 1&1/2" wide and tapered in thickness so it remains the same width but is more flexible towards the luff of the sail. Some battens are just solid and uniform in thickness. 3/4" seems pretty small. I have another batten that came out of one of the old mains and it is solid fiberglass and 1&1/4" wide. The best thing to do would be to take the sail to a sail maker and have them fit the battens to your sail. The only problem with that solution is that they are extremely busy these days, Steve.

I'll take the battens I have to Fawcetts in Annapolis and use them as patterns. I have measured the batten pockets for length, so that should work.

Interesting that the battens you have are tapered. Have to admit I don't have any expertise re/ battens.

In fact, the more I sail the more I realize how much I don't know!

I have a tapered and a straight batten sitting here by my desk. If I push on the ends of the straight batten it bends to from a perfect radius. When I push on the ends of the tapered one it bends to the shape of a perfect air foil. It is pretty easy to see the advantage of the tapered battens when doing this exercise.

I should have a mew main sail in a few days and it will have tapered battens and should be awesome, for more than that reason

Couldn't agree more! I've been at this for quite a few years as well and find something new all the time I need to know or know more about.

This board has been a tremendous benefit over the past 8 or 10 years I've been on.

And now, I'm going to look into tapered battens!!!!!!!
