Bronze Ports Leaking (Not from Gaskets/Seals)
I have several leaking ports (bronze on CD) that I would like to reseal. Is there any "safe" way to take these bronze ports apart? I've taken most of the screws out but several just turn but are not backing out !! I'm afraid to pry on any part of the port as they might crack . Any help will be greatly appreciated .
Re: Bronze Ports Leaking (Not from Gaskets/Seals)
If you are speaking of the standard Spartan ports on most CD's remove the exterior bronze wood screws and you should be able to pry the trim ring off. Most likely caulked on so use a soft wood backer to pry against the fiberglass. If the screws no longer have a purchase drill 3/8" hole in that location and fill with thickened epoxy, re-drill proper size for screw. Clean everything well then solvent wash, caulk and install trim ring until screw are snug and caulk squeezes out. Let caulk set a day then give screws an 1/8 - 1/4 turn more and carefully remove squeezed out caulk.
If that doesn't cure them from leaking suspect gaskets.
