wanted: self-t winches and cleaning milky teak

I am trying to locate a pair of affordable self tailing winches to replace my lewmar 25s, 2 speeds. Does anyone know of a good used winch source? Also have a milky subsance appearing on my Armada teak (perhaps a mold?)-what is the best way to clean it without damaging the finish? Regular boat soap doesnt work. Thanks in advance for help.

If you find a second pair of self tailing winches "at an affordable price", please let me know. Sometimes "Bacon" in Annapolis will have some pretty good used gear at prices less than a "new" item, but with regard to st winches, I'm not sure that even their prices are "affordable". Good luck.

Self tailing winches rarely get upgraded, so they're hard to find used.

Mike, Don't know re: milky substance, but anderson is doing a rebate program on their self-tailing. winchs, you trade in your old winch. for instance the 12st rebate=$50.00 28st=$75.00 40st=100.00 and on up. I just replaced all my winchs with the andersons. check out their web site@ www.sailnet.com tele.18002343220 still very expensive but less than the retail outlets. good luck, Ben

Mike, Not sure about the milky teak without seeing it but Armada is pretty hard so I don't think you could hurt it with a bleach solution if it's mold or fungus that should clear it. You might call the tech people at Armada they're very friendly and helpful cobncerning what would harm the finish. Their no. is 800-336-9320 Let us know if you find the solution (no pun intended)

Milky teak,mold , is part of the natural aging/exposer process of the wood , sun & elements dry the surface . Use bleach full strength and a stiff nylon brush and scrub , rinse w/fresh water . After dry , oil or coat with sealer/varnish . Results are guarenteed .
