Propeller for CD33 with Universal 5424
I have the original Universal 5424 engine (max rpm said to be 2400) but have had to change the Hurth gearbox. Unfortunately too late i.e. Once afloat, I found I had a left hand 1.94/2.14 box not a right hand (long story!) Although I can run the engine in ahead I have to limit power to avoid gearbox damage.
As I am afloat (in the Caribbean) and have been unable to find a marking on the present 3 bladed prop I am at a loss to discover what prop I should have. I have seen 13x10 mentioned.
So my query is does anyone have the same gearbox ratio and engine (albeit different hand) and can tell me. I know ther at formulae out there but they produce different results so some practical feedback would be appreciated.

Our 33 has a Michigan wheel fixed 3 blade 15" by 10 RH prop. Our gearbox is a Hurth approx 2:1 I believe. We have the Universal 5424 motor. I hope this helps.

The propeller on Grace is a 14 x 11- just checked for curiosity. The gearbox is the original 2.14 to 1. Hull number
is #85 (early 1983) with the Univesal 5424. Apparently different propellers were installed as production went
along. At 2200 rpms, the boat moves at a little over 6 knots. I've never maxed out the rpms. - Jean

Simon, I should have mentioned that I am happy with the performance of this prop on the 33. While I would love to try a feathering prop to see the difference in speed under sail, she is always able to power through a chop when needed (or trudge through shallow marina mud!)

Re: Propeller for CD33 with Universal 5424
I switched to a Campbell Sail prop and found it far superior to the standard Michigan wheel.
Re: Propeller for CD33 with Universal 5424
I have now removed my existing prop and found it is a 15x10, so effectively a suitable one.
I have taken various measurements of the hub to try and make sure I order a prop with the correct taper. I still have an original (or copy of?) bronze shaft and seem to have a taper of 1:24 does this sound familiar as it does not seem to conform with standard tapers of 1:10 &1:12. An thoughts very welcome. Unfortunately I am now in UK and boat is in Antigua so I cannot do a recheck!
