Making non-skid mold

Post by Dasein »

I have a chip out of the non-skid and want to make a mold of the existing pattern so that the repair I make matches. Does anyone know of a Home Depot product solution with which to create the mold? I've seen a video with pouring gel coat and creating a fiberglass backing, but I'm wondering if there is a simpler method for small repairs using epoxy or otherwise.

I've not done this on a boat deck, but for a small repair you could use a modeling clay material or a silicone product. Press it over a similar deck pattern you want to re create, peel back, spray with mold release wax and place over your new gel coat deck repair. After that kicks clean off the wax with a dewax product and paint.
