bowsprit for CD27?

Post by mathiasben »

Has anyone fitted a bowsprit on a 27? I'm considering the possibility of fitting a Selden retractable or one of the A shaped carbon bits to be able to fly a Gennaker in light airs.

Check the CDSOA archives. I believe many years ago Bill Goldsmith fitted a bowsprit to his cd27 "Second Chance." The boat is now owned by Mark Yashinsky. I think I have the right boat. I remember pictures of it. So use the "search" function on this board to find it.

When you decide what to do, I would not mind seeing what you come up with. I have a 33 and I have been thinking of adding a bowsprit for several reasons. I want to extend the bow roller so the anchor is away from the boat. I also want a fixed point further out for an asym tack point. I am thinking I will have to have it custom made to incorporate the roller.

In this prior thread are pictures of KAYLA's 'over-sized' bowsprit that was installed by a previous owner. It's great for the ground tackle we carry.

Have you checked out Teakflex? http://www.teakflex.com/bowsprit.htm

I am interested in same for Annie Girl, curious if anyone has tried this route.

Teakflex looks neat, like the idea of adding a bow roller, but it doesn't appear as if a sail could be flown from it. another problem I'm finding is that the bow pulpit extends out further than most production boats that have been fitted with the various after market sprits. the search continues!
