25D Steel Cradle
25D Steel Cradle
Would anybody be interested in a steel cradle for a 25 / 25D ?
Although I loved storing / transporting "SV Take 2" on the cradle because it is very sturdy and secure, it has gotten very difficult to find boat haulers on Long Island's north shore to handle cradle stored boats anymore.
I have changed over to storing the vessel at a yard that uses jack stands only.
I had thoughts of holding onto the cradle with the intention of using it for a long distance relocation but I am years away from doing that.
It is in great shape. Just need a few touch-ups to cosmetic paint spots.
Being steel, it is quite heavy.
If anyone is interested in it. It is located in Miller Place, Long Island, NY.

Re: 25D Steel Cradle
Here in the Mid-West, where we have to deal with spring floods, cradles are preferred over jack stands. If you strap your boat to the cradle, when the flood comes, both the boat and the cradle will float. Keep them tied to a good tree or an anchorage and when the flood goes down the boat will be rest comfortably in her cradle. A boat on jack stands will end up on her side unless you can cross the receding flood waters and keep moving the jack stands underneath her and hope that the jack stands are on solid even ground. They can easily be transported on any flatbed.
Best of luck to you.
Best of luck to you.

Re: 25D Steel Cradle
I might be interested in the cradle - any chance you could provide measurements between the hull support pads (front-to-back & side-to-side)? How would I go about picking it up - is it necessary to take a ferry roundtrip from CT? I'm thinking that the cradle could sit on top of a conventional boat trailer with/without bunks... Thanks for your feedback!
Re: 25D Steel Cradle
The cradle is 5' wide by 10' 8" long.
It is 47" tall at the moment but with the pads removed it will be around 36"
I think as long as you bring a cross support for the front, a boat trailer would work.
I am about 10 minutes from the Port Jefferson ferry.

Re: 25D Steel Cradle
Thanks Keith,
I was actually curious as to the distances between the poppet pads - wondering if it might fit a different hull than the CD25 - (I should have been more specific), but from your dimensions and the photos I conclude that the lateral measurements are 5' and assume that the fore & aft measurements are approx. 8'(?) pad-to-pad with the middle one at 4'. Is this close? Any rough idea what the whole thing weighs (500lbs. or less?). Any idea what it costs for a pickup & trailer roundtrip on the ferry? Thanks!

The pads are 58" wide
48" from front to middle
44" middle to back.
I belive the ferry charges by length.
Should be on their website.
Never took a trailer on the ferry so I don't know for sure...

Re: 25D Steel Cradle
Thanks again Keith. The cradle will work for me - now I just need to figure out when/how to pick it up - what do you want for it? I might be able to avoid the ferry altogether, but will check the website nonetheless - is it listed under Port Jefferson Ferry, Bridgeport Ferry, or L.I. Ferry? Guess I'll find out...
Re: 25D Steel Cradle
It is near the Port Jefferson ferry.
Just Google Port Jefferson Ferry.
The cradle is yours for free. I do have one new pad top that I purchased. Is was $45.00 . I would love if you would cover the cost for that. It is not installed yet, brand new. ...

Re: 25D Steel Cradle
No problem, happy to do that much! What is your street address & phone # ? My email is Bocaturabank@yahoo.com and my # is 843-407-7635, just so that we can coordinate when & where to pick up the cradle (no rush however, I'm going to be away for the next couple of weeks...) Thanks again - Alan

Alan,
Great to hear. I am happy to see it get used. It did a great job storing my 25D.
Just let me know when you are back and we can arrange transfer.
