This may sound a little strange, but I would like to have a trailer for a CD-30 cutter.
My work requires me to move around and I would like to have a trailer built, unless someone like Triad has a trailer already designed for a CD30 or like size boat. I would expect to have to rent a large truck or even go as far as having someone hall it for me as the combined weight will be 12,000 to 13,000 lbs. I have a J22 that I trailer all around the US and it would be nice to have the same flexibility with my cruising boat.
If someone has either a trailer, or plans for one, or even plans for a cradle that I could use to custom fabricate a trailer it would be nice to get a hold of them to make copies. I would be willing to pay for them.
Cheers, Jay

Trailer or cradle for a CD30

Re: Trailer for CD28 or CD30
No, wanting a trailer is not strange and can be done. Ever since I saw a CD30 flying down the highway I've been thinking about the benefits. I also am working on a trailer for my CD28 and figure it can be built to haul a CD30 as well or others. Actually I just purchased a Triaxle aluminum frame trailer. It had a 32' powerboat sitting on it. I plan to get to work soon and plan to use 3 screw jacks per side for stability with the boat resting on its keel. I've got a number of issues to work out such as hitch design, placement, stabilizers, etc.
If anyone has good trailer plans/designs please commit, thanks.

Re: Trailer for CD28 or CD30
What kind of truck was hauling the CD-30 down the road...A dual rear wheel pickup? Do you know if it is reasonable to rent a truck from Ryder, Penske, etc... for towing the 12,000 lbs?
I figured I would locate the pads at the four bulkheads that run from deck to hull as well as a large padded "V" on the front. I have seen the pads for sale in the back of last months "Soundings"
As far as the trailer hitch, I was in Annapolis last week and saw some of the trailers used for hauling the 30-36' racing hulls down the road. They all used a heavy duty 2 1/8" ball hitch connected to a brake cylinder. Those boat are probably in the 8,000-10,000 lbs range but sit a whole lot higher off the ground than the CD-30 would.
Let me know about your progress with your trailer.
Cheers, Jay

I believe it was a dual rear wheel pickup truck. I think a smaller truck may also work along with the 2-1/8" ball hitch for short town trips. Thanks
