Has anyone replaced the original fiberglass forward hatch with an aluminum framed bomar hatch?

Re: CD 25 Hatch
I looked high and low, but I was unable to find a similar size. I hear they will build to size on a custom($)basis.

I bought one from Defender it measures 15 5/8 X 20 so I am planning on filling the gaps on the sides with teak. I was wondering if anyone had ground down the deck to accomodate a new hatch.Jon wrote: I looked high and low, but I was unable to find a similar size. Re: CD 25 Hatch
I see,
The opening has a curve to it going across. I guess we could put a straight edge on the outer corners and trace a line to be trimmed down to on the fwd and aft part. At least then the opening would be on plane to some degree. Any balsa encountered would have to be scraped out (deeply) and replaced with epoxy. From here I think some teak spacers would take care of the rest.
Are there any other thoughts out there on this popular CD25 issue?
